      The Wat Ket Museum is closed until further notice. The museum is on the grounds of the Wat Ket Karaam temple in the Wat Ket neighborhood, east of the Ping River. Jack Bain, the son of William Bain, the last manager of the Borneo Company, founded this museum. After the last curator Khun Somwang left, the residing monks of the temple took over the management of this unique museum. Its exhibits include old photographs, artifacts, utensils, and textiles. When I visited today, one of the monks told me the museum is closed because of damage to the roof. He could not tell me how long the repairs would take.       Fresh food markets in Thailand are fascinating places with an unbeatable atmosphere. They are also the best places to meet local people. The Kad Luang, aka the Warorot Market, is such a place in Chiang Mai. I consider it the heart and soul of Chiang Mai. At the time, some people thought that the mushrooming of megastores such as Lotus and Makro would be the death sentence for these markets. Fortunately, fresh food markets are very much alive. These markets are communities where most people know each other and, in many cases, have a long history. Another unique market is the Yunnan Friday morning market, opposite the Ban Ho Mosque in Charon Prathet Road Soi 1. Historically this market centered around the Wongluekiat House, a historic wooden house on stilts. Many sellers are descendants of Muslim migrants from Yunnan in South China, known as Chin Haw. Over the years, it has expanded and has become very popular. It starts at 5 AM and ends at about noon.
