Chiang Mai a la Carte
Wat Tham Pha Chom ((วัดถ้ำผาจม) is Mae Sai's most popular and impressive Buddhist temple, located on a forested mountain. The name translates as the temple of the cave and the "sinking" cliff. There are several very large buildings with lots of statues but the most famous attraction is a very large white Buddha image on a cliff with a view. It offers great views of the Myanmar border town Tachilek and all the way to the mountains of Shan State in Myanmar. Besides that, there is a small cave with several Buddha statues. Close to the white Buddha statue, there is a coffee shop with the brand "Coffee Monk", which I highly recommend. According to information at the temple, Phra Acharn Vichai Khemiyo resides at this temple. He is one of the most revered meditation masters in the country.#chiangmaialacarte ... See MoreSee Less

Chiang Mai a la Carte
The Louis Leonowens House is a historic house in Lampang. It was the managerial residence and office of Louis T.Leonowens Co.Ltd., a company that was involved in the teak industry before World War Two.Local people know the house as “Baan Louis” (in Thai: บ้านหลุยส์). Louis T.Leonowens (1856-1919) was the son of Anna Leonowens (1831-1915) who became famous as the British governess to the wives and children of King Mongkut (Rama IV) of Siam (now Thailand) in the 1860s. Her son Louis became involved in the teak industry and founded his own company in 1905. The house is more than 100 years old. We first visited it in 2016 and went back, again and again, to check on the preservation efforts and, ultimately, the renovation. In 2018 an event took place at the house during which the local community embraced the house. The renovation of the house started in early 2020 and took a year to be finished. The Thama-O community regularly organizes events on the spacious grounds around the house. We can arrange a private visit to the house and the office but it is of course featured in all our Lampang trips.#chiangmaialacarte #greentrails ... See MoreSee Less
