Make beautiful photos of tribal traditional dress
The Lisu and Akha people
Your guide and driver will meet you at your hotel in Chiang Mai for your Chiang Mai Tribal Photography Tour. We will drive to Chiang Dao, about 70kms north of Chiang Mai. Our first visit will be a village where Akha and Lisu live together. We will spend some time here to meet some of the villagers. They will show you their traditional dress, and your guide will explain about these fascinating tribes who migrated from China more than a century ago. You are free to take photographs of Akha and Lisu who will dress up in their most beautiful traditional dress. You can also pose for pictures with them. The Akha women are most well known for their specific headdress. The dress of the Lisu is colourful.
The Karen and the Dara-ang (Palong)
Our next stop is a Karen village where we will meet some of the villagers and learn about their dress and traditions. The Karen are the most numerous of Thailand’s tribal groups. It is time for lunch. We will enjoy lunch in one of the villages, depending on the timing.
We will then visit a village of the Dara-Ang, in Thailand known as Palong. The Palong came from Myanmar and settled in this area in the 1980s. Their dress is particularly colourful and exciting. In this village, most women still wear traditional clothing, and they don’t do that because tourists are visiting. Apart from having the opportunity to make photographs of traditional dress and posing together with local people, you will also learn about their culture.
The Hmong people
We should then get on our way back to Chiang Mai. Last stop today will be the magnificent viewpoint Mon Cham where we will meet a couple of Hmong villagers who show us their beautiful traditional dress. The Hmong have beautiful textiles. Return to Chiang Mai. It is also possible to add an optional visit to a settlement where Karen Long Neck aka Padaung people live. It’s a tourist village but interesting and friendly. Let us know if you want to add this to your trip. In this case, we would have to alter the schedule a bit. Some extra costs will apply. We will drop you off at your hotel in Chiang Mai. We hope you enjoyed the Chiang Mai Tribal Photography Tour.
