Chiang Dao Trekking and Sticky Waterfalls
Visit the Mae Malai Market
Your guide and driver will meet you at the hotel to start your Chiang Dao Trekking and Sticky Waterfalls trip. Today you will get a glimpse of local life in the Chiang Dao area. The Mae Malai market will be our first stop. It is a very traditional local market. We will spend some time here because it is so interesting. We will continue to the Chiang Dao area. On your left-hand side looms Doi Luang Chiang Dao aka Doi Chiang Dao, Thailand’s third-highest mountain.
Easy hiking through the jungle
We continue to the Palong (Palaung) village Pang Daeng Nai. We will visit the small royal project, the “huja rawl” (the village heart) and the local temple. Then we hike through the fields and enter the protected forest of the village. It is not allowed to cut trees here. There are dipterocarp trees but also giant bamboo trees. You can choose between two hikes, a long one and a shorter one. Both trails are not flat but not too difficult. Finally, we look down on the village where our “mini trek” will end.
Mae Chon, a Palong (Palaung) village
The village Mae Chon is also a Palong village. The Palong (Palaung) people are relatively recent arrivals from Myanmar. They were caught in the crossfire between Shan freedom fighters and the Burmese army. You will meet some of the people. Our guide will explain about their traditional dress and their history. We will enjoy a simple lunch here. Your guide will tell about the livelihood of the villagers and about the different crops they grow here. We will show you lots of different fruit trees. Amongst others, there is mango, longan, pineapple, lemon and papaya.
The Bua Tong Waterfall aka the Sticky Waterfalls
The Bua Tong Waterfall is also known as the Sticky Waterfalls. The clear, refreshing mountain water cascades over limestone rocks. Limestone is not slippery and has surprising grip. It is a popular and fun activity to walk up and down the falls. This waterfall is part of Sri Lanna National Park. It is great to cool off after our trekking adventure in Chiang Dao. After a refreshing swim, it is time to drive back. We will drop you off your hotel in Chiang Mai. We hope you enjoyed our Chiang Dao Trekking and Sticky Waterfalls Tour.
