Karen Trekking Adventure – two days
Day 1: Chiang Mai – Karen Village
Your guide will meet you at your hotel or guesthouse for this two day Karen Trekking Adventure. The Karen are one of the minority groups in North Thailand. We will pick up other participants first before we leave Chiang Mai. On the way to the Mae Wang area where we will be trekking for the coming days we will stop at a local market. Your guide will do some shopping for the coming days. You can join him on his shopping spree. We continue to the starting point of our trek of today. From the valley we will follow a stream into the hills. We will stop at a beautiful waterfall where we will stay for a while. If you want to get take a dip in the fresh mountain pool while your guide prepares lunch. After lunch we will continue into the mountains. We’ll pass the first Karen village. Before we reach the village where we will spend the night we’ll stop at a Royal Project. Your guide will tell you about this agricultural project before we move on. At the end of the afternoon we’ll reach the local house where we will stay overnight. Your guide will introduce your hosts. You’re free to explore the village on your own before dinner or can help the guide prepare the food. You can learn some Thai cooking. After dinner there is time for games and stories. Your guide will tell you about the Karen people. Sleep well.
Day 2: Karen Village – Chiang Mai
Rooster will wake you up after a good night sleep. Your guide will prepare breakfast. A local breakfast is available as well. After we are reenergised we will pack our bags and off we go. Today the trek will be mostly downhill with very nice views. We’ll pass through rice fields and nice patches of tropical forest. Also today you will have an opportunity to swim in a waterfall. Time to relax. After our swim we will trek to the main road where our truck is waiting for us. We’ll drive to a private house where we will have lunch. After lunch we will drive to a small bamboo rafting camp on the Wang River. Here you will board a bamboo raft and float down the river for about 45 minutes. It’s great fun and you might get wet. After this we will drive back to Chiang Mai. Before we drop you off at your guesthouse or hotel we’ll stop at a beautiful fresh market. These kind of markets are still very popular in Chiang Mai and for good reasons.
Say goodbye to your guide and driver. We hope you enjoyed our Karen Trekking Adventure and have learnt something about the daily life in the mountains.
