Doi Inthanon National Park Day Tour
Our Doi Inthanon National Park day tour takes you to Doi Inthanon, Thailand’s highest mountain and one of the best national parks in the country. The park is accessible year round but activities vary according to the season. There are a number of fantastic hikes possible, from very easy to slightly difficult. There are villages of the Hmong and Karen hill tribes as well as a large number of beautiful waterfalls. Just to mention a few: Wachirathan, Mae Ya, Mae Klang and Siriphum falls.
In 1954, the forests around Doi Inthanon were conserved, creating Doi Inthanon National Park, as one of the original 14 national parks of Thailand. This park now covers 482.4 km² and spreads from the lowlands at 800 m elevation up to the peak at 2,565 m. Given the varied climatic and ecological areas regions, the park supports a range of animal species, including over 360 bird species. Doi Inthanon National Park is therefore a very popular destination for birdwatchers. On the lower slopes, birds to look out for include wintering species such as Grey Bushchats, Siberian Ruby throats, Buff-throated, Radde’s and Yellow-streaked warblers and a few Little and Chestnut Buntings. Buzzards and occasional Grey faced Buzzard may also be found.
In the Hill evergreen forest above 1,500 m and montane-type forest around the summit species include Red-flanked Bluetails, White-tailed and Ashy-throated leaf-warblers, together with wintering Orange-barred leaf-warblers. Flocks of Scarlet Rosefinches are often present. On the main road to the summit of Doi Inthanon stand two adjacent chedis, one called Naphamethinidon, meaning “by the strength of the land and air”, and the other, Naphaphonphumisiri, meaning “being the strength of the air and the grace of the land”. These temples were built to honour the 60th birthday anniversary of King Bhumibol Adulyadej in 1987, and the 60th birthday anniversary of Queen Sirikit in 1992, respectively.
