Chiang Mai Markets Tours

We think Chiang Mai has so many different and interesting markets that we decided to offer several Chiang Mai Markets Tours. The adjoining Ton Lamyai and Warorot markets are two of Chiang Mai’s most attractive markets. We will take our time to take in the atmosphere of these wonderful places and let you taste some of the typical Northern Thai products that are for sale here. Both markets were destroyed in a fire in 1968. We will show you the pictures and you will learn about the resilience of the people who built up the markets from the ashes. The area around the markets is also known as Chinatown. We will visit an old Chinese pagoda and you will light some incense.

There are a number of other interesting day markets such as San Pakoy, Chiang Mai Gate and the more recently established Mae Hia market. The Chiang Mai Night Bazar is one of the most well known night markets in Thailand. It has an interesting history but in recent times alternative weekly night markets, labeled “Walking Street” have been established that have become very popular: the Saturday Wua Lai Walking Street and the main one: the Sunday Walking Street which takes place within the Old City of Chiang Mai.

Another very interesting market that takes place only once a week is the Saturday morning San Patong market. San Patong is about 20kms from Chiang Mai. The San Patong market is the largest open air market in North Thailand. Virtually everything is on sale here. It’s the only market within close reach of Chiang Mai where buffaloes and oxen are being traded. Apart from the fresh and souvenir markets there is a number of interesting shopping malls in Chiang Mai such as Central Airport Plaza (still our favourite), Central Festival, Maya and Promenada. These can be added to your Chiang Mai Markets tours.

These are some of the Chiang Mai Markets tours we offer:

CMA12 Chiang Mai History Walk – half day Walking through Wat Ket Area, Warorot market and Ban Ho area
CMA22 Chiang Mai Highlight – day tour Visit to market, ancient temples including Wat Doi Suthep
